Everyone should know that when we breed a litter of puppies, it is because we
are expanding the gene pool. So, you may be on the waiting list for a blue eyed,
gray and white, toy female, but if the breeder or stud dog owner is producing
this litter with the same puppy in mind, they have the first choice. So, you
may have to wait for the next puppy with those characteristics. If we don't
do this, not only will you not get good puppies, you won't be getting any puppies
at all. So, please don't get upset and think that people are being advanced
before you. I have had people tell me to "name my price" to move them to the
first spot. I have turned them down in the past and will do so again. As a
result, those people usually go elsewhere, but that's OK. I want to be fair
and maintain my good reputation, so that's what I do.
Thank you,
I get a lot of e-mails
asking for the cost of adopting a Klee Kai. That information is
contained on the Reservation Request but is as follows:
Everything is US dollars. Females with blue eyes are $1600, $1500 without blue eyes. Males with blue eyes are $1100, $1000 without blue eyes. All dogs are sold on spay/neuter contracts unless to be a part of the breeding program. When that has been accomplished, I refund $75.00. The additional costs are as follows:
*Prices may vary according to size, temperament, availability or terms and conditions of sale such as co-ownership, etc.
$166.00 approximate at the present time for sending a pup anywhere in the
continental US, subtract the US tax for Canadian but right now
the price is fluctuating so it will depend on the prices at the time.
Recently Delta has approved collect shipments so that could make it easier
to get your pup to you.
The cost of a rescue or
retiring Klee Kai can range from $150 and up depending upon the
age and temperament of the dog in question. Each individual dog
is evaluated and the fee is set accordingly. Also, all retiring
or rescue Klee Kais are spayed or neutered before leaving here
and we cannot fly all of them. It depends upon the temperament
of the each dog. So, each case is handled on an individual basis. If
they need to meet their people before leaving here, then the people
would have to come here to pick them up. Some are too shy to just
send home on a plane. I ruined a really nice dog by just sticking
him on a plane without any introduction to his new people. So, now
I have the adopting family send a piece of clothing or a pillowcase,
towel, etc. with the family's odors on it so that the dog can
be acclimated prior to making such a drastic change. They also
have tattoos and I will make available the opportunity for persons
adopting these dogs to obtain the DNA code (or paw print as it
is referred to) if they would like to have that kind of identification.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
It's great to find homes for mis-placed dogs.
Because we have had an occasional
problem in the past with people not understanding that these are high
energy dogs who crave and sometimes even demand a lot of attention
from their people, I would like for everyone who has a reservation
or is thinking about making one to be absolutely sure about their
decision to reserve a Klee Kai. They're like having a two year
old. Their minds are constantly going and they are constantly
finding things to keep themselves busy. Sometimes that's a bad
thing, but for owners who realize this is what they are getting
and are prepared, it's great.
Because these
dogs are high energy dogs and very pack motivated, they cannot just grow up
outside like some other kinds of dogs are able to do. Before you
make your reservation, please, be very sure that these are the
qualities you want in your dog. Remember, that cute little puppy does grow up
to be a dog and will be a good or bad one according to how you have trained it
as a puppy. Spoiled puppies, make bad dogs generally speaking.
One puppy placed a quite a few Christmases ago,
was returned to me primarily because these folks had a small child (about two
if I remember right) who the dog jumped up on to kiss, etc. because that's what
puppies do. Of course, this would knock the child down which can be dangerous
with a toddler. The owners turned out to be too busy
to take the dog to obedience training so he started spending a
lot of time alone either in the yard or in the garage since it
rains so much here. I appreciate very much that this owner could
think of the dogs' welfare and face the fact that things just weren't
going to work out. Thus they returned him to me before he could
become a problem dog. That dog was Simba. As it turned out, he became a
stud dog for me and now has retired and lives in Durango Colorado with another
of my retired stud dogs, Savi. Go figure. But please, I can't emphasize enough that
these dogs are like having a 2 year old for life and, take this into
account before making your reservation to adopt a Klee Kai. Nearly every
dog who has had a behavior problem was not taken to obedience classes.
I really can't remember ever having to take back any dog who had been through
obedience classes. That should tell perspective owners that obedience classes
are an absolute necessity.
These dogs are inquisitive
and have no problem getting either positive or negative attention
from their owners.
