[ Making Backups ]


Backing Up Your Files:
Each time to create a new file or directory, modify and existing file or directory or upload files to your website it is most important that you always retain a complete copy of your website on your local computer system. That way if you make a mistake or if something should go wrong, you always have a valid copy that you can upload back to your website.

We highly reccomend that you make two copies of your website:

  1. Make a copy of you website before you make any changes. Just in case things goes wrong.
  2. Make another copy of your website after you have made changes and verified that all is well and working correctly.

Below are step by step instructions on backing up your website data.

Steps for Making Backup Copies of HTML Files:
  • Using your browser, go to the webpage which you wish to make a backup of.
  • At the top of your browser's menu, click on File.
  • Select Save As.
  • Navigate to the directory on your local computer's harddrive where you wish to save the backup files.
  • Select Save.
    Your browser will then download a copy of the HTML file to your local computer's harddrive.

Your next step is to make a backup of each of the photos & images contain in your HTML file as follows:

Steps for Making Backup Copies of Photos & Images:

    Step 1
  • On your computer use your Windows Explorer (Not Internet Explorer) and navigate to the directory named "My Documents"
  • On the menus select File, then New and then Folder
  • A new folder will appear. Now name it MyWebsite
  • Now double click on the new MyWebsite directory/folder
  • Again, on the Windows Explorer menu select File, then New and then Folder.
  • A new subdirectory/folder beneath the MyWebsite directory will appear. Now rename the new subdiretcory images.
  • Now close the Windows Explorer program

We have just setup a directory system which is identical to your website when it was initially setup.

As you create new diretories on your website, you will want to use the procedue above to re-create the identical directory stucture on your local computer.

Now we are ready to begin downloading your website files to your computer.

    Step 2
  • Using your web browser, logon to the ezMan system if you have not done so already
  • You should now be located in your root directory of your website
  • Click once in the check box located to the left of the home.html
  • Now click the Download link located in the lower left corner of the ezman screen
  • A save as box should appear on your screen momentarily
  • Use the save as box to navigate to the MyWebsite directory on your computer system.
  • Now click the Save button

    Repeat the above procedure for each of the files located in the root directory of your website

    Now we need to download the files located in the images directory of your website.

  • Click once on the directory images You should now be located in images directory
  • You should now be located in your root directory
  • Click once in the check box located to the left of the a filename
  • Now click the Download link located in the lower left corner of the ezman screen
  • A save as box should appear on your screen momentarily
  • Use the save as box to navigate to the MyWebsite sub-directory named images on your computer system.
  • Now click the Save button

    Repeat the above procedure for each of the files located in the images directory of your website
