Welcome to our website

Welcome To Lighthouse Newfoundlands!
Where we take our breeding program seriously, selectively breeding for conformation, soundness and temperament, which is the hallmark of the Newfoundland breed! We prescreen all potential Newf puppy owners before accepting a reservation. The application is posted on page three. Make sure to access the drop-down menu and press GO! Exciting puppy news is posted on page four. Jane's puppies were born on January 27, 2010! Eight, very beautiful, all black puppies. Occasionally, we may have a young adult available. At present, I have a two and half year old male available to an approved pet home (no breeders please). Please note: I do not ship adults. Contact me for more info on my male.

If you’re serious about obtaining a Newfoundland, please read on. With the increasing number of Newfoundland dog breeders currently advertising puppies, listed are a few questions you should ask before buying. How long have they actually bred Newfoundlands? Also, from the start of my acquiring my own breeding foundation twelve years ago, Newfoundlands were costly. So, how much does the Newfie pup cost? If you’re lured in by a two to five year guarantee, please don’t get your hopes up. Reputable Newfie breeders offer a one-year guarantee. Trust me, you will know if your dog is dysplastic or has sub-aortic stenosis by the time the year is up. All sorts of health clearances? That can also be a tricky one. If a breeder selects PennHip for hip testing, what is the score? Above 50th percentile is the recommended rating. A breeder can have all the clearances under the sun, but might not have a good depiction of the Newfoundland breed standard; especially if the breeder states that they “breed for size.” All sorts of positive testimonials? We all know of the potential problems with any purebred dog, and if any breeder states "they've had no problems," beware! Is the breeder "anxious" to sell you a puppy? Another red flag. I like to establish a good rapport with potential new owners to make certain it’s a good fit all the way around before accepting a deposit. Sadly, many so-called breeders are ruining our precious breed, which prompted me to revamp the beginning of my Web site.

Choosing a Newfoundland breeder can be an arduous task, indeed! At Lighthouse, we take pride in breeding not only healthy, sound Newfoundlands, but maintaining conformation and type as well. We do not breed for size. We adhere to the AKC standard. Our puppies are always raised in our home, and very well socialized from day one.
