"Melody"
Melody is my first Irish Setter, a lifelong wish fulfilled. I started looking seriously about 2 years ago and after searching various web sites came across Captiva Kennels and Jill Taylor. Jill's dogs struck me as exactly the type of Irish I was looking for. I contacted Jill who happened to have a litter of 4 week old pups. Jill had recently acquired her first English Cocker from a breeder who I know and respect and that formed an instant bond. After chatting with Jill over the course of several weeks she offered me pick "b*tch" out of the litter...which of course was Melody. Melody made her debut at a show in Wrentham, MA at just over 6 months of age. She had not had much lead training as I had broken my wrist in February and was in a cast for almost 10 weeks. The first time we put her on a lead she was like a young, wild filly! Even so, she went on to take RWB to a four point major the following day. Jill then took her back to Canada to get her Canadian Championship. This she achieved in very limited showing along the way winning several Best Puppy in Show awards at both All Breed and Speciality Shows. A week after gaining her Canadian Championship she was awarded ALL BREED Puppy of the Year (2001) competing against 75 other dogs who had also won BPIS during the preceeding year. Melody is now home in the USA and will be making her American debut in the next few weeks - first in February in New Jersey.
